New Taipei City Weather in April

April: damp spring days

April feels mild but often grey in New Taipei City. Days reach about 25°C, but humidity is high and rain falls on 18 days. Expect sticky afternoons, damp pavements and cloud that can hide the views.

You can still explore indoor sights, browse the shops around Banqiao, or visit the National Palace Museum nearby. A break in the rain can make a walk along the Tamsui riverfront pleasant. But don't count on clear mountain views or a dry day for the coastal walks around Yehliu. May is wetter still, so April can work if you're flexible.

Holidays and crowds

Children's Day and Tomb Sweeping Day fall in early April, and Taiwan often has a holiday break around them. Families visit relatives and travel, so popular places and trains can feel busier during the break.

Outside those days, April is generally calmer than the busier autumn and winter months, which are among the best times to visit. It's not a peak season for New Taipei, and prices may be gentler than during major holiday periods. Still, don't expect the lowest rates around the holiday weekend.

If you hate crowds, visit Tamsui Old Street on a weekday rather than during the holiday break.

Make room for rain

Keep plans flexible: pair an outdoor stop with somewhere indoors, so a shower doesn't derail your day. The shops and food stalls along Tamsui Old Street are handy when the riverfront turns wet.

For an easy local meal, try a-gei in Tamsui: tofu stuffed with noodles and served with sauce. You can reach the area on the Taipei Metro's Tamsui-Xinyi line. Check the forecast before heading to Yehliu Geopark; its exposed coastal paths are less enjoyable in rain and wind.
