April weather in Fuzhou

April feels mild, damp and often cloudy. Days reach 23°C, but the rain comes on many days, and humidity can make the air feel sticky. You'll get about three hours of sun a day, so don't count on a clear view from every hilltop.

It's a good month for exploring Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, where you can duck into old courtyards between showers. West Lake Park is lovely in spring, too, but muddy paths can make a long wander less appealing after rain. Compared with March, April is warmer and a little wetter; May brings more heat and rain.

Qingming and crowds

Qingming, the Tomb-Sweeping Festival, falls in early April. Families visit ancestral graves, and the holiday can bring extra domestic travellers. Expect busier transport and more people at popular sights around the holiday, though Fuzhou isn't at its busiest overall.

If you hate crowds, visit Three Lanes and Seven Alleys on a weekday, away from the holiday. April is generally a quieter, better-value time than the popular October-to-December stretch, but prices can rise around Qingming.

Make the most of a wet day

Rain doesn't have to derail your visit. Keep indoor stops, such as the Fujian Museum, for wetter spells, then save a stroll beside the Min River for a brighter break. April's changing skies can make an all-day outdoor plan frustrating, so leave room to switch things around.

Travelling with kids? Try Fuzhou fish balls in a covered food hall when showers set in; they're fish paste dumplings with a savoury filling. For a local route tip, take a city bus to West Lake Park and walk towards the Fujian Museum. They're close enough to pair without trekking across town.
