April weather in Taipei

April feels warm, damp and often cloudy. Days reach about 25°C, but rain falls on many days, and the air can feel sticky. May is wetter and hotter, while March is a little cooler and just as rainy.

You can still enjoy city walks between showers. Browse the covered lanes around Dihua Street, or spend a rainy spell at the National Palace Museum. Long hikes on Yangmingshan are less dependable when trails are wet, and cloud can hide the views. Pack your day around flexible indoor stops rather than expecting clear skies.

Holidays and crowds

Qingming, Taiwan's Tomb Sweeping holiday, falls in early April. Families visit ancestral graves, and travel can get busy around the holiday. Dates vary, so check the calendar for your year.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during the holiday weekend and choose weekday visits to popular sights. April sits just after Taipei's best-weather months, November to March, so it's generally quieter than the winter peak. Prices can be easier than in peak season, but holiday travel may push them up.

Make rainy days work

Taipei's MRT makes it easy to switch plans when a shower rolls in. For a simple rainy-day route, take the train to Taipei Main Station and explore its underground shopping areas before heading to the nearby National Taiwan Museum. You can stay mostly under cover without losing the day.

Travelling with kids? Qingming can mean busy transport, so keep your plans close to an MRT station. April's damp weather also suits a slower food stop: duck into a beef noodle shop around Yongkang Street while the rain passes.
