November: mild, often damp

November feels cooler than Taipei's sticky summer, with daytime highs around 23°C and evenings near 19°C. But rain falls on many days, and the sky is often cloudy, so don't count on long sunny stretches. The weather suits museum visits, food stops and wandering around Ximending between showers. For hikes on Elephant Mountain, wet steps can be slippery; save the climb for a dry spell.

Events and crowds

The Taipei International Travel Fair is usually held in November at Nangang Exhibition Center. It draws travel fans, so expect extra visitors around the venue. The Golden Horse Film Festival also often takes place this month, with screenings across the city. November sits between the busy summer and Lunar New Year periods, so central sights can feel calmer than during major holidays. Prices are generally less pressured than in peak holiday periods, though popular hotels can still fill during events.

If you hate crowds, visit Taipei 101 on a weekday rather than during a weekend event.

Make the most of a rainy day

Rain can come and go, so keep an indoor stop in mind rather than giving up on sightseeing. The National Palace Museum works well on a grey afternoon, while covered arcades around Taipei Main Station make it easier to browse and eat between showers. For a local-weather treat, take the MRT to Beitou and soak in a hot spring; the cooler air makes the warm water especially welcome. Follow signs to the Beitou Hot Spring Museum and Thermal Valley, where steam rises above the mineral pools. Don't step into Thermal Valley's water: it's dangerously hot.
