February in Nanhai feels mild, with comfortable afternoons and cool evenings. It's warmer than January, but not yet as hot as March. Rain is usually light, though you may get a few damp days and plenty of cloud. Expect some grey skies rather than reliable sunshine.

It's a good month for walking around Qiandeng Lake Park or exploring Xiqiao Mountain, where cooler weather makes longer outings more pleasant. Showers can make mountain paths slippery, so skip a long hike when it's wet. Beaches aren't a main reason to visit Nanhai; save your time for parks, temples and Foshan's famous ceramics.

Holidays and crowds

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, and the Lantern Festival can too; both follow the lunar calendar, so their dates shift. During the Spring Festival, family travel can make transport and popular sights busier. Some shops and restaurants may close, especially around the holiday itself. Outside those dates, February is generally calmer than the holiday rush.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during Chinese New Year and visit Qiandeng Lake on a weekday.

February is part of Nanhai's better travel season, running from November to February. It can feel busier and costlier around the holiday than in quieter weeks, while March brings warmer weather and more rain.

A local tip

For a relaxed evening, head to Qiandeng Lake in Guicheng. The lakeside paths and lit-up buildings are a pleasant change after sightseeing, and the cooler air makes a walk comfortable. If you're visiting Xiqiao Mountain, check whether the weather is dry before choosing a trail; mist and rain can hide the views.

Travelling with kids? Pair a short park walk with a meal of Shunde-style double-skin milk, a local chilled dessert found around Foshan. It's a good end to a mild day, though less appealing if the evening turns chilly.
