Mild days by the lake

February is one of Zhaoqing's better months for getting outside. Afternoons reach about 23°C, while evenings can feel cool at around 11°C. It's often cloudy, and rain comes on several days, so the weather can feel damp rather than sunny.

That suits a slow walk around Seven Star Crags, where you can explore the lakeside paths and limestone peaks without summer heat. A boat ride is another good option when the sky is clear. Save long outdoor plans for a brighter day; cloud and showers can make views hazy and paths slippery.

Lunar New Year crowds

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, but its date changes each year. If it does, expect more local travellers, busy transport and higher hotel prices around the holiday. The Lantern Festival, which marks the end of New Year celebrations, may also fall in February.

If you hate crowds, visit outside the holiday dates. The rest of the month is usually calmer than major holiday periods, though Zhaoqing remains in its popular November-to-February travel season. Prices can rise during New Year, but are generally easier to find outside that peak.
