October is warm in Zhaoqing, with highs around 29°C and cooler evenings. Humidity still hangs in the air, but it's less rainy than September, so you'll have more chances to explore outdoors. A brief shower can still interrupt a day, though.

Seven Star Crags is a good pick for lakeside paths, cave visits and boat rides between limestone peaks. Dinghu Mountain's forest trails are another option, though wet sections can be slippery after rain. Save long walks for a clearer spell, and keep indoor time for a rainy afternoon.

Holidays and crowds

China's National Day holiday falls in October. During Golden Week, Zhaoqing's popular sights can get crowded, and transport and hotel prices often rise. Outside that holiday, October is generally quieter and less costly than peak travel dates, though it's not as calm as the best months from November to February.

If you hate crowds, avoid Seven Star Crags during Golden Week and visit on a weekday outside the holiday instead. The lake paths feel much more relaxed when tour groups thin out.

Getting around Zhaoqing in October

October's weather suits a mix of sightseeing and easy outdoor time. You can wander Zhaoqing's old streets, then try local steamed rice dumplings, known as zongzi. They're a filling stop after a walk, not just a festival food.

At Seven Star Crags, check whether boat rides are running before setting off; rain or poor conditions can affect them. If the water route is unavailable, you can still explore the grounds on foot and enjoy views of the karst peaks. The evenings are cooler than the afternoons, making a stroll around Xinghu Lake a comfortable end to the day.
