October weather

October feels warm rather than scorching in Jiangmen. Days reach 29°C, while evenings cool to around 21°C. Humidity is still noticeable, but rain eases sharply from September, with showers on about eight days. You'll get plenty of usable time outdoors, though clouds can still soften the sunshine.

It's a good month for walking around the Kaiping Diaolou villages or exploring Jiangmen's old streets. Keep indoor plans for a rainy spell, and don't count on every beach day being bright and dry. November is cooler and drier; October suits you better if you prefer warmer days.

Holidays and crowds

China's National Day holiday falls at the start of October. It's one of the country's busiest travel periods, so expect crowded trains, popular sights and higher hotel prices around the holiday. Outside those dates, Jiangmen is usually calmer and better value than during the holiday rush.

If you hate crowds, visit later in the month. October isn't as reliably busy as the National Day break, and it's outside Jiangmen's best-weather stretch of December to February. There's no need to build your trip around a major local October festival.

Make time for Kaiping

October's mix of warmth and lighter rain works well for a day among Kaiping's diaolou—fortified village towers found across the countryside. You can explore the buildings and surrounding villages without the heavier September downpours, though the sky may be cloudy.

Travelling with kids? Choose a smaller cluster of towers rather than trying to cover every village in one day. A useful local tip: check your route to Zili Village before setting out from Jiangmen. Kaiping's sights are spread across the countryside, so it's not a quick city-centre walk between them.
