September still feels like summer in Jiangmen: afternoons are hot and sticky, and evenings stay warm. Rain falls often, with about 18 wet days, so a clear morning can turn stormy later. It's less rainy than August, but much wetter than October.

You can visit the Jiangmen Museum or explore covered streets in the city when showers arrive. Save outdoor time at the Kaiping Diaolou and their village surroundings for a dry spell. Heavy rain can make sightseeing uncomfortable, and typhoon weather can disrupt travel. Don't build a tight schedule around outdoor plans.

Events and holidays

The Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in September, though its date changes each year. If it does, you may see lanterns and mooncakes for sale. It's a family holiday, so local shops and transport can be busier around the festival.

China's National Day holiday starts on October 1. September itself is usually quieter than the summer school break or October's holiday rush. If you hate crowds, this can be a calmer time to see the Diaolou, but the weather is a trade-off.

Getting around

September is generally less busy than peak summer, and prices may be lower than during the National Day holiday. Still, don't expect a bargain month everywhere; weekends and festival dates can draw more visitors.

For Kaiping's Diaolou, choose a base near Chikan Ancient Town if you want to combine the historic buildings with a place to eat indoors. Check local transport after heavy rain, since the sights are spread across the countryside and getting between them takes time.
