September: hot and damp

September still feels like summer in Nanhai. Afternoons are hot and sticky, with frequent rain and plenty of cloud. Showers can interrupt a day out, so keep indoor sights in mind.

September is quieter than the National Day period, but it's not as cool or dry as Nanhai's best months, November to February. Prices don't follow a single pattern, though rooms and transport can cost more around the Mid-Autumn Festival or the lead-up to National Day.

For an easy local outing, take the Guangfo Metro to Qiandeng Lake and enjoy the waterfront when the rain lets up. Check the forecast before setting off; after a downpour, the paths around Xiqiao Mountain can stay slick.
