Mild days outdoors

December feels cool and mostly dry in Jiangmen. Afternoons reach around 21°C, while evenings can drop to 11°C. Rain usually comes on just a few days, so you'll have plenty of chances to explore outside.

It's a good month for walking around Kaiping's Diaolou, the fortified watchtowers and homes scattered across the countryside. You can also enjoy a city stroll without November's warmer, wetter feel. Skip plans that depend on a hot beach day; this is a mild winter, not swimming weather.

What's on

December doesn't bring a major, well-known annual festival to Jiangmen. Christmas may appear in shopping centres, but it isn't a major local holiday. New Year's Eve is also quieter than the Lunar New Year period, when family visits and travel bring bigger changes.

If you're hoping for a big event, December may feel ordinary. Instead, take time to try Xinhui chenpi, dried mandarin peel used in local cooking and tea. The peel is closely tied to the district's citrus-growing tradition.

December is one of Jiangmen's best months for comfortable sightseeing, so popular sights may feel busier than in the hotter, wetter months. It's still before the main Lunar New Year travel rush, and prices can vary by school holidays and weekends. January has the same average high, but more rain.

If you hate crowds, visit Kaiping's Diaolou on a weekday. Travelling with kids? Keep the countryside outing flexible; some watchtowers are spread far apart, so you'll spend time travelling between them. In Xinhui, look for chenpi at a local shop and ask how it's used in tea or dishes.
