October weather

October feels warm rather than scorching, with afternoons near 29°C and evenings around 21°C. It's much drier than September, though showers still fall on about eight days. The air can feel sticky, but there's enough sunshine for outdoor plans.

You can explore Sun Yat-sen's Former Residence in Cuiheng or stroll along the Qijiang River without the heavier summer rain. Save long walks for clearer parts of the day, and keep indoor sights in mind if a shower rolls in. It's less suited to a full day of hiking in exposed, humid conditions.

Holidays and crowds

China's National Day holiday falls at the start of October. Popular sights and transport can get crowded, and prices often rise during this holiday compared with quieter weeks. Outside the holiday, October is generally calmer than that peak period, though it isn't as cool as Zhongshan's best months, December to February.

If you hate crowds, visit Cuiheng after the holiday rather than during its first week. The village is a good place to linger, but the holiday rush can make getting there and around less relaxed.

If you're visiting Cuiheng, check your route from central Zhongshan before setting out; it's outside the city centre, so it takes more than a quick stroll to reach.
