June: hot and damp

June feels sticky from the moment you step outside. Daytime highs reach 29°C, nights stay warm, and rain falls on many days. Clouds often hang over the harbour, so views from Victoria Peak can come and go.

You can still enjoy air-conditioned stops like the Hong Kong Museum of Art, or take the Star Ferry between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui. Save long, exposed walks for breaks in the rain. The Dragon's Back trail can be slippery, and hot, humid weather makes a steep climb feel harder. Beach time is possible, but showers can interrupt it.

Dragon boats and rice dumplings

The Tuen Ng Festival, also called the Dragon Boat Festival, usually falls in June. Stanley's dragon boat races bring lively crowds to the waterfront, while bakeries and restaurants sell zongzi, sticky rice dumplings wrapped in leaves.

For families who enjoy a noisy day by the water, the races are a fun outing. Just expect packed waterfront spots during the event. Dates shift each year, so check the festival schedule before heading to Stanley.

Quieter deals, with a catch

June is generally a low-season month compared with October to February, Hong Kong's more comfortable travel period. You may find lower hotel rates and fewer visitors at major sights, though festival areas can get busy. Rain and humidity are the trade-off; don't count on clear skies for every harbour view.

For a practical local move, take the MTR to Central, then use the covered walkway through IFC Mall to reach the Star Ferry pier. It's handy when a sudden shower hits, and you can still cross the harbour without getting soaked.
