Mild days, damp air

April feels warm and humid, with highs around 26°C and lows near 20°C. Rain falls on about 13 days, and cloud often softens the views. You can still explore Central's street markets, ride the Peak Tram or walk the Dragon's Back, but showers can interrupt longer outings.

The air can feel sticky, especially on steep walks. Save the Peak's skyline views for a clearer spell, and choose an indoor stop, such as the Hong Kong Museum of Art, when rain sets in. April is sunnier than it looks on paper, but it's not reliably beach weather.

Holiday weeks and busy pockets

Ching Ming Festival, usually in early April, brings families to ancestral graves; it's a public holiday, so some places may be busier or close. Easter holidays also draw visitors, though their dates change each year. The Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament is often held in April, adding crowds and raising hotel prices around the event.

April is busier and generally pricier than the quieter summer months, but it doesn't match the drier, popular October-to-February period across the board. Families who want a calm city break may prefer weekdays outside holiday and rugby weekends.

A smart Island plan

For a practical rainy-day option, take the MTR to Admiralty and use the covered walkways to reach Pacific Place, then continue toward Hong Kong Park when the rain eases. On clear days, the tram up to Victoria Peak is a classic, but low cloud can hide the harbour.

April is much cooler and less rainy than May, when rainfall rises sharply. Still, the humidity can make long climbs feel harder than expected. Keep the Dragon's Back walk flexible, and swap it for Central's galleries or a bowl of wonton noodles if the weather turns.
