June: hot and soaked

June feels sticky from morning to night. Highs reach 30°C and lows stay around 27°C, with humidity at 87%. Rain falls on 24 days, and cloud often dulls the view. You'll still find plenty to do indoors: explore the M+ museum in West Kowloon, shop in Mong Kok, or ride the Star Ferry between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui.

Save long, exposed hikes for a clearer day. Heavy rain can make paths slippery, and thunderstorms can spoil the views from Dragon's Back. Even short walks between sights may feel tiring in the humid air.

Dragon boats and holidays

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Tuen Ng Festival, usually falls in June. Races bring teams and spectators to waterfront spots around Hong Kong, and the day is a public holiday. The date changes each year, so check before you go if you want to catch a race.

If you hate crowds, avoid the main race venues on festival day. Elsewhere, June is generally quieter than the cooler months from November to February.

Quieter days, lower demand

June is hot, wet and cloudy, but it's usually less busy than Hong Kong's popular winter season. Hotel prices are often lower than in those peak months, though festival areas can fill up on race day. July brings school-holiday travel, so June can feel calmer before the summer rush.
