Visiting Hong Kong in February
Mild days outdoors
February feels mild rather than warm, with comfortable afternoons and cooler evenings. You'll get some rain and plenty of cloud, so the skyline can look hazy from Victoria Peak. Walking around Central, exploring Man Mo Temple, or taking the Star Ferry still works well. The hills are pleasant for a walk, but wet paths can be slippery. Save beach time for a warmer month.
Lunar New Year crowds
Lunar New Year sometimes falls in February, bringing flower markets and festive displays across Hong Kong. Dates change each year, and some shops and restaurants may close during the holiday. If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during the holiday itself; the parade and fireworks can also draw large crowds when scheduled. February is part of Hong Kong's popular November-to-February travel season, so expect more visitors and higher prices than in quieter months.
Make the most of your day
Rain is modest, but February isn't reliably sunny. Keep indoor stops like the Hong Kong Museum of History in mind for a cloudy spell, and don't count on a clear view from the Peak. A useful local trick: take the Star Ferry between Tsim Sha Tsui and Central when the Peak is hidden by cloud. You still get close-up harbour views, and the crossing is part of the experience.
Travelling with kids? The ferry is an easy outing between sightseeing stops, without committing to a long hill walk.
