February: warm and wet

February feels hot, humid and often cloudy. Daytime highs reach 30°C, with warm nights around 20°C. Rain falls on many days, usually in short, heavy bursts. January is wetter, while March is a little drier.

The spray over Victoria Falls can be strong, and the rainforest paths may be slippery. You'll still get dramatic views from the Zimbabwe-side viewpoints, but clouds and mist can hide parts of the gorge. A helicopter flight may give you a clearer view from above. Avoid planning a long outdoor day around dry skies.

What to do

If you love lush scenery more than clear photos, February can be rewarding. The Zambezi is rising, and the falls feel powerful. But high water can make white-water rafting unavailable, and Devil's Pool is generally closed at this time of year.

Travelling with kids? Keep the walk through Victoria Falls National Park flexible, since rain can make the paths tricky. A practical tip: take a waterproof cover for your camera at the viewpoints. Spray can soak it even when rain has stopped.

Crowds and local dates

February is part of the rainy, quieter season. You'll usually find fewer visitors and lower prices than in the popular May-to-July period, though some tours may run less often or pause because of water levels.

Zimbabwe marks National Youth Day on February 21. It's a public holiday, so some local services may close. The falls are still the main draw, but the town can feel less busy than during the drier months.
