August is dry, sunny and comfortable for walking around Victoria Falls. Afternoons can feel hot, while evenings are cool. The clear skies make it easier to see the spray and rainbows around the falls, though the Zambezi is lower than during the rainy season.

You can spend time on the rainforest paths and take a sunset cruise on the river. White-water rafting is also popular as the water drops, but conditions vary along the gorge. Ask a local operator which sections are running. Don't expect the huge curtain of water you'd see after the rains; some viewpoints can be less dramatic.

Crowds and costs

August is a busy month at Victoria Falls, with visitors drawn by dry weather and wildlife viewing in nearby parks. Rooms and tours can cost more than in quieter, wetter months. July is also a popular dry-season month, while September gets hotter.

If you hate crowds, visit the falls early in the day or later in the afternoon. The rainforest paths can still feel busy around the main viewpoints.
