April: the falls are full

April is warm, with afternoons reaching 30°C and evenings cooling to 17°C. Rain eases from March, though you may still get a shower. The spray over Victoria Falls can be heavy, and paths in the rainforest may be wet and slippery.

You'll get dramatic views of the Zambezi pouring over the gorge, with sunny breaks for a helicopter flight or a sunset cruise. High water can limit access to some viewpoints, and white-water rafting may be paused. Skip Devil's Pool: it's a low-water activity, not a safe April swim.

Easter and Independence Day

Zimbabwe's Independence Day falls on 18 April, with celebrations around the country. Easter also sometimes falls in April, bringing a holiday weekend and more local visitors. Exact Easter dates change each year.

If you hate crowds, avoid the falls over Easter weekend and visit on a weekday instead. April is generally quieter than the May-to-July peak season, so accommodation and tours can cost less than in those busy months. Easter can be an exception, especially around town and the main viewpoints.

Getting around Victoria Falls in April

April suits you if you want big water and warm days without the busiest dry-season crowds. It's less ideal for a clear, dry walk along every rainforest path, or for swimming at the edge of the falls.

At the Victoria Falls rainforest entrance, take the paths slowly where spray leaves the rocks slick. Keep your camera protected near the Main Falls, where the mist can soak you even when the sun is out. Check locally before booking rafting; river levels can affect which trips run.
