October heat

October is one of the hottest times to visit Victoria Falls. Afternoons can feel punishing, with highs around 37°C, and there's little rain to cool things down. Mornings are more comfortable for walking the paths in Victoria Falls National Park. By midday, the heat can make the viewpoints tiring, especially with the sun on the open trails.

The Zambezi is low, so the Falls may look less powerful than they do from May to July. But clearer views of the rock face can make this a good time for photos. October is also part of the low-water season for white-water rafting, though trips depend on river conditions.

Events and crowds

There isn't a major fixed public holiday or annual festival in Victoria Falls in October. The season itself draws visitors: many come for safaris and river activities before the rains arrive. Lodges can still charge high-season rates, so don't expect October to be a bargain, even though the heat may put off some visitors.

If you hate crowds, the Falls' viewpoints can feel calmer than in the cooler peak months. The town can still be busy, particularly around safari departures and popular river trips.

Travelling with kids? Keep the main Falls walk for the morning, then take a shaded break during the hottest part of the day. The small amount of rain means muddy paths are less of a concern, but the heat is a real one.
