February: rain shapes the day

February is warm, cloudy and very wet in Lubumbashi. Rain falls on most days, and the high humidity can make afternoons feel sticky. With little sunshine, it's not the month for a reliable pool or long walks around the city.

You can still visit the Musée National de Lubumbashi, where indoor exhibits offer a welcome break from showers. Leave flexible time for getting around: heavy rain can slow road trips and make some streets muddy. January is wetter, while March is a little drier, but neither is a dry-weather escape.

There's no major annual Lubumbashi festival I'd count on in February. Valentine's Day is observed on 14 February, and some restaurants may mark it, but it's not a citywide event. Check locally if you're hoping to find a particular celebration.

If you hate crowds, February can suit you. It's part of the rainy low season, so visitor numbers are generally lower than in the drier months from May to August. Some hotels may charge less than in peak season, though prices vary and local demand still matters.

Travelling with kids? Keep an indoor stop in reserve for the wettest part of the day; the Musée National de Lubumbashi is a useful choice.

For a local food stop, try a Lubumbashi restaurant serving grilled goat with fufu, a firm cassava dish. Rain can make journeys across town slower, so choose somewhere near where you're already staying or sightseeing rather than squeezing in several distant stops. February rewards a loose plan: enjoy a clear spell when it comes, and don't expect the weather to hold.
