December: warm and very wet

December in Lubumbashi feels warm, humid and often grey. Rain falls on 28 days, and the average day gets little sunshine. You'll likely need to work around showers rather than count on a clear afternoon.

The National Museum of Lubumbashi makes a good rainy-day stop. Short outings around town can also work between showers. Save long walks or plans that depend on dry ground for another month; paths can be muddy, and heavy rain can disrupt road journeys. November is hotter and less wet, while January is similarly rainy.

Christmas and New Year

Travelling with kids? Keep the Lubumbashi Zoo as a short outing, and have an indoor alternative ready if rain sets in. If you're heading across town, ask your guesthouse about current road conditions before setting off; downpours can make local journeys slow. December is a poor choice if your main goal is long, sunny days outdoors.
