Venice feels warm and summery in June, with long, bright days and sticky afternoons. Rain can still interrupt a visit, so expect the odd shower between sunny spells. The weather suits wandering around Cannaregio's canals, visiting the Doge's Palace, or taking a vaporetto across the lagoon.

Save outdoor sightseeing for the cooler parts of the day. St Mark's Square can feel exposed when the sun is strong, and narrow streets offer little breeze. A rainy spell is a good time to explore the Peggy Guggenheim Collection instead.

Events and summer evenings

Festa della Musica falls on June 21, with concerts held in cities across Italy, including Venice. You may hear music in squares and other public spots. Events can vary from year to year, so don't count on a particular performance.

With daylight lasting well into the evening, you can linger along the Zattere waterfront after dinner. Try cicchetti, small Venetian snacks, at a bàcaro, a local wine bar.

Crowds and getting around

June is already a busy, expensive time to visit. You'll share the main sights with plenty of other travellers, though July and August are usually more crowded. Compared with the quieter winter months, expect more demand for rooms and a livelier feel around Rialto and San Marco.

If you hate crowds, spend more time in Dorsoduro or Cannaregio. Travelling with kids? Take a vaporetto along the Grand Canal, then get off near the Zattere for a calmer stroll by the water.
