Visiting Ubud in February
February: wet season days
February feels warm, sticky and very wet in Ubud. The high is 28°C, and rain falls on 26 days, often leaving paths slick and the sky cloudy. You'll get little sunshine, so don't expect every day to suit a long outing.
A rain break can still be lovely for wandering Ubud Palace and nearby shops, or visiting the carved stone rooms at the Agung Rai Museum of Art. Rice terraces are lush, but muddy tracks can make a long walk less fun. Save the Campuhan Ridge Walk for a dry spell, and skip exposed trails if heavy rain has made them slippery.
Festivals and local life
February has no fixed annual festival date in Ubud. Chinese New Year sometimes falls in the month, and dates change each year. If Galungan falls during your visit, you'll see tall decorated bamboo poles called penjor outside homes and temples. It's a Balinese Hindu holiday, and some businesses may close for family ceremonies.
If you hate crowds, February is often calmer than July to September, Ubud's best-weather months. It's rainy-season low season, so you may find fewer visitors and softer prices than in the dry-season peak. Don't count on empty streets, though: Ubud stays popular year-round, and holiday dates can bring extra visitors.
Make rain work for you
Travelling with kids? Keep a rainy afternoon for the Ubud Palace area, where you can duck into shops and cafés between showers. For a local meal, try nasi campur: rice served with small portions of several dishes.
At Tegallalang Rice Terraces, wet steps and muddy paths can be slippery. Ask locally about conditions before setting off, and stick to the main viewpoints if rain is falling. A relaxed café stop in central Ubud can be a better call than forcing a long walk through the downpour.
