Visiting Ubud in August
August weather
August is warm and mostly dry in Ubud, with daytime highs around 27°C and nights near 22°C. The air can still feel sticky, but long sunny spells suit temple visits, rice-field walks and time at the outdoor cafés around Jalan Raya Ubud. Rain is limited, though a shower can still interrupt a walk.
Campuhan Ridge Walk is a good choice in the morning, before the sun feels strong on the open path. Save the shady lanes around the town centre for the warmer part of the day. If you're hoping for lush, rain-fed rice fields, they may look less vivid than in wetter months.
Events and crowds
Indonesia's Independence Day falls on August 17. You'll often see red-and-white flags and local games or celebrations around the country; in Ubud, ask locally what's happening nearby.
August is part of Bali's dry-season high season, so Ubud is busier than during the rainy months. Popular spots such as the Sacred Monkey Forest and Tegalalang Rice Terraces can feel crowded, and stays may cost more than in quieter months. July to September are among the best months for weather, so you're sharing the good conditions with plenty of other visitors.
If you hate crowds, visit the Monkey Forest early, then explore quieter streets north of the centre.
A local tip
At the Monkey Forest, keep food tucked away and hold on to loose items. The macaques are used to visitors and may grab what they can reach. Don't feed them, even if they seem friendly.
For a slower afternoon, try a plate of nasi campur at a local warung. It's rice served with small portions of different dishes, and it's an easy way to sample Balinese flavours between gallery visits. Ubud's cafés and shops stay busy in August, so a relaxed meal away from the main streets can be a welcome break.
