Tianshui Weather in October

October: cool autumn days

Tianshui feels mild in October, with daytime highs around 19°C and lows near 8°C. It's cooler than September, but not yet as cold as November. Rain falls on about 11 days, and cloudy skies are common, so some days feel damp rather than bright.

You can explore Fuxi Temple and the old streets without summer heat. Maijishan Grottoes also suit a day out, but wet steps can be slippery. Save steep walks for a dry day, and don't count on long, sunny afternoons: daylight is shorter, with only a little sun on an average day.

Golden Week and crowds

China's National Day holiday begins in October and brings a major travel rush. Tianshui's sights and trains can feel much busier during that holiday, and rooms may cost more than on ordinary October days. Outside the holiday, crowds and prices are generally easier than during this peak period.

Families who want quieter visits may prefer going after the holiday, when Fuxi Temple is less hectic. October isn't known for a major Tianshui-specific festival, so the National Day travel rush is the main event to plan around.

A practical Maijishan tip

Maijishan's grottoes are cut into a steep cliff, with narrow paths and stairs linking the caves. If rain has fallen, take your time on the steps and skip the climb if conditions feel unsafe. The cooler weather is helpful for sightseeing, but damp stone can make the route harder than it looks.

Bring your visit to Maijishan forward if the forecast is dry; leave indoor sights such as Tianshui Museum for a cloudy or rainy spell. The weather is comfortable overall, but with frequent cloud and showers, a flexible day plan beats relying on a clear view from the grottoes.
