Tianshui Weather in March

March feels like spring

Tianshui starts to warm up in March, but mornings and evenings can still feel cold. Afternoons reach about 16°C, while nights can drop to 2°C. Rain is limited, though you may get a few damp, cloudy days.

It's a comfortable month for exploring the old streets and visiting the Fuxi Temple. You can also head to the Maijishan Grottoes, where caves and sculptures cling to a steep cliff. Cloudy skies may soften the views, and wet steps can make the climb less pleasant. Save long outdoor visits for a dry day.

Events and crowds

March has no major fixed national holiday in China. Qingming, when families visit ancestors' graves, usually falls in early April, so it doesn't normally bring March crowds. Local events can vary from year to year.

Compared with April, one of Tianshui's best months, March is generally quieter. You're also ahead of the busier summer travel season, so sights may feel calmer. Prices can be lower than in peak months, though rates vary by hotel and date.

Make the most of a dry day

The cooler weather suits sightseeing more than lingering outdoors all day. Keep a rainy afternoon for a stop at the Tianshui Museum, and leave the Maijishan visit for clearer skies. March is much drier than April, but a little rain can still affect a cliffside outing.

A useful local tip: check conditions before travelling out to Maijishan, rather than treating it as a quick city stop. The grottoes sit outside central Tianshui, and the approach includes steep paths and stairs. Take your time on damp steps, and enjoy the carvings at a pace that feels comfortable.
