October is a comfortable month for exploring Baoji. Days reach around 20°C, while evenings cool to about 9°C. Rain falls on 11 days, and cloudy skies are common, so the weather can change the feel of a day out. You'll get pleasant walking weather, but don't count on clear views every day.

Temples, hills and noodles

Famen Temple makes a good day trip, with its famous pagoda and Buddhist relics. For mountain scenery, Taibai Mountain offers hiking, though wet paths and cloud can spoil the views. Save a long hike for a dry day, and keep a city visit in reserve if rain sets in.

Families who like history may find Famen Temple easier to enjoy than a full day on mountain trails. For a taste of the area, try Qishan saozi noodles, a local dish with minced meat and a tangy broth.

Holiday crowds

China's National Day holiday begins in October and brings a major travel rush. Baoji's sights and trains can be much busier during that break, with higher prices than on ordinary October weekdays. Outside the holiday, visitor numbers and prices are generally calmer than in peak holiday periods.

At Famen Temple, allow extra time for the journey during National Day, as road traffic can slow the trip. If you're visiting then, go on a weekday after the holiday rather than joining the busiest travel days.
