Raipur Weather in June

June: heat before the monsoon

Raipur in June is still hot, though less fierce than May. Days reach 37°C, and evenings stay warm at around 27°C. Rain falls on 18 days, but showers don't make the month cool: the air is humid, skies are often cloudy, and sunshine is limited.

Keep outdoor sightseeing short. Visit the indoor galleries at Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum, or spend the sticky afternoon in a café around Telibandha. Avoid long walks around Marine Drive in the heat, especially when rain clouds gather. July is wetter still, so June can suit you if you want to dodge the heavier monsoon.

Events and quieter streets

The Rath Yatra, a chariot festival linked to the Jagannath Temple, sometimes falls in June. Its date follows the Hindu calendar, so check the local schedule before building your visit around it. The city doesn't have a major fixed June festival every year.

If you hate crowds, June is generally quieter than Raipur's pleasant December and January high season. The heat and rain put many visitors off, so hotels and flights may be less in demand than in those cooler months. Prices vary, though, and a festival can bring more people to the temple area.

Make the weather work

Travelling with kids? Keep the hottest part of the day for indoor stops, then visit Telibandha's Marine Drive when the sun eases. A sudden shower can interrupt an outing, so use auto-rickshaws between sights rather than relying on a long walk.

For a local food stop, try chila, a savoury rice-and-lentil pancake, at a Raipur restaurant. It's an easy meal after a damp evening out. If you're hoping to explore nearby nature, June's rain and poor comfort rating make long outdoor trips a less comfortable choice than city sightseeing.
