Raipur Weather in January

January feels mild

Raipur's January days are warm and sunny, and the mornings and evenings turn cool. The high is 26°C and the low is 12°C, with little rain: just 11 mm over two days. You can spend long hours outdoors without the sticky heat that arrives in February, when highs climb to 31°C. January is one of the two best months to visit, and December is almost as good.

It's a good month for the open-air displays at Purkhouti Muktangan or a relaxed walk around Telibandha Lake. If you want a break from the sun, the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum makes a good stop. Rain is unlikely to shape your plans, but bring a layer for the evenings, which can feel chilly after sunset.

Those cool, dry days also suit the public calendar. Republic Day on January 26 brings ceremonies and flag-raising events across India, including Raipur. Makar Sankranti is another January festival, though its date shifts from year to year. It's a good chance to try seasonal sweets made with sesame and jaggery.

Because December and January are Raipur's best months overall, January can feel busier than the hotter months that follow. You may find more visitors around the holiday period, and rooms can cost more than in the quieter, hotter season. Still, Raipur isn't usually a major tourist crush, so you'll likely have room to breathe.

For Purkhouti Muktangan, which sits outside the city centre, arrange your ride back before you arrive. Finding transport there can be less convenient than around central Raipur. While you're in town, try chila, a savoury lentil pancake, at a local eatery.
