Best Time to Visit Raipur

Winter, October to February: the sweet spot

This is when Raipur is at its best. Days are sunny and mild, and December and January are the most comfortable months, with lows around 12°C. Mornings and evenings can feel properly cool, so you'll want a light jacket after dark. October and November are also rated Excellent, though October still has some showers and heavy air.

It suits almost any trip. Walk around the Budha Talab lake in the evening, visit the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum, or browse the stalls on Jaistambh Chowk. Day trips are easy too. Sirpur, with its old brick temples, is a pleasant outing in cool weather. Chitrakote Falls, in Bastar, is a long drive, so make it a proper side trip rather than a quick outing.

Winter is also the busiest time for travellers, but Raipur isn't a big tourist city, so crowds stay small. Hotels fill more around weddings and Diwali, which usually falls in October or November. The Rajyotsava, Chhattisgarh's state foundation celebration on 1 November, brings cultural events and folk dance performances.

March to June: hot and getting hotter

February is still lovely, with warm days at 31°C. After that, things heat up fast. March is manageable, but April and May are fierce, with highs of 41°C and 42°C. May is the hottest month, and it's also the one with the warmest nights, at 28°C. Afternoons are the kind where you stay indoors.

If you must come, spend midday in a mall or museum and go out after sunset. Holi in March is colourful and fun, and the weather is still bearable. June brings the first heavy rain, but it's still hot and sticky, so it doesn't feel like relief yet.

July to September: the monsoon

This is the wettest stretch. July is the wettest month, with 413 mm of rain, and it rains on 26 days of the month. August also sees rain on 26 days. Skies stay grey, with barely any sun, and humidity is high.

It isn't all bad. The countryside turns deep green, and waterfalls like Chitrakote are at their fullest. But roads can be slow and flooded, and Bastar trips get tricky. If you hate planning around downpours, skip these months. If you like quiet, green landscapes and lower hotel demand, they can work for a short, flexible visit.
