Best Time to Visit Visakhapatnam

November to February: the sweet spot

This is when Visakhapatnam is at its best. Days are warm but not heavy, and nights in December and January drop to about 21°C. That's cool enough to sit on RK Beach after dark without sweating through your shirt. Rain is rare from December to February, and the sun is out most of the day.

November also rates Excellent, but it's a bit damp and cloudier as the monsoon fades. Cyclones from the Bay of Bengal can still show up in late autumn, so keep an eye on the forecast. This is the time for the Kailasagiri hill park, the Submarine Museum, Rushikonda Beach, and the road trip up to Araku Valley. The Araku train ride through the Eastern Ghats is lovely when the air is clear.

It's also the busiest stretch. Sankranti in mid-January is the big Telugu harvest festival, with kites, rangoli (chalk-powder floor art) and family trips. Hotels fill up and beaches are packed at weekends. If you hate crowds, aim for weekdays or early December.

March to May: hot and getting sticky

March is still pleasant. By April and May, afternoons turn hot, and May's nights stay around 29°C. May is also the first month when the rain returns, with showers on more than half the days. Sightseeing is best at dawn or late afternoon. Midday suits a long lunch of seafood, or a break indoors.

Indian school holidays run through April and May, so families travel. The beaches get busy in the evenings, but the city doesn't feel as crowded as it does in January. If you're on a tight budget, this is a decent compromise.

June to October: the wet months

Be honest with yourself about this one. Rain falls on most days from June to September, and July has only about two hours of sun a day. September is the wettest month, just ahead of July. Humidity sits around 85%, and clothes never quite dry.

Beaches are often rough, and swimming is not a good idea. Views from Kailasagiri can disappear into cloud. But the hills around Araku turn deep green, and waterfalls run strong. If you don't mind getting wet, you'll find fewer tourists and quieter hotels.

October is a messy month. Rain eases, but cyclone risk is higher. Dussehra and Diwali bring lights and sweets to the city when the skies allow.
