June heat

June is Peshawar's summer at full force. Daytime highs reach 41°C, and even evenings stay warm, so sightseeing can feel draining. The air is fairly dry, but rain still falls on some days, often in short bursts. Long walks around the old city are best kept brief; save outdoor plans for morning and spend the hottest hours indoors.

If you're travelling with kids, keep the afternoon free of outdoor stops.

Make mornings count

Visit Qissa Khwani Bazaar early, while its lanes are easier to explore, then retreat indoors for lunch. Peshawar Museum offers a cooler break and a close look at Gandharan art. The city's famous chapli kebab is worth trying, but a hot meal may feel heavy in the afternoon.

Eid al-Adha sometimes falls in June, though its date shifts each year. If it does, expect family gatherings, prayers and changed opening hours. Don't assume every shop or sight will follow its usual schedule.

Quieter, but not cool

June is low season compared with Peshawar's more comfortable months from November to January. You'll generally find fewer visitors, and accommodation may cost less than in the cooler months. The trade-off is the heat, which makes full days of sightseeing tough. July brings heavier rain, so June is less wet than the month after.

For a practical old-city visit, ask a rickshaw driver to drop you at Chowk Yadgar, then explore Qissa Khwani on foot. It's easier than trying to navigate the narrow lanes by car, and you can keep the walk short when the heat builds.
