May feels like summer

Peshawar's May weather is hot, dry-feeling and bright, with afternoons reaching 37°C and nights staying warm around 22°C. It's a sharp step up from April, and June gets hotter still. Rain can interrupt some days, but showers won't make the month feel cool.

The long daylight helps if you want to see the old city, Qissa Khwani Bazaar or the Peshawar Museum. Keep outdoor sightseeing for the cooler parts of the day; the lanes around Qissa Khwani can feel tiring in the afternoon heat. May isn't ideal for long walks or hikes in the midday sun.

What's on, and how busy it gets

Pakistan's Labour Day falls on May 1. It's a public holiday, so some offices and shops may close, while public events can take place. Dates for Islamic holidays change each year, so don't assume one will fall in May.

May is generally quieter than Peshawar's more comfortable November-to-January season. You'll likely find fewer winter visitors, and accommodation may be less in demand. That can mean better value, though prices vary and aren't guaranteed to drop.

If you hate crowds, May can suit you better than the winter months. Just trade busier sights for hotter afternoons.

Make the heat work for you

Plan a compact visit: explore the museum or a shaded bazaar in the morning, then take a break indoors during the hottest hours. Peshawar's famous chapli kebab is worth seeking out, but a rich meal may feel heavy when you're already warm.

A useful local tip: visit Mahabat Khan Mosque outside prayer times, and ask locally before taking photos inside. Its courtyard is exposed, so it's better suited to a brief stop than a long midday visit. May can work for a short city break, but it's not Peshawar's easiest month for lingering outdoors.
