June: punishing summer heat

Patna in June feels fiercely hot, with highs around 40°C and warm nights near 30°C. Rain arrives on some days, but it doesn't make the heat comfortable. Expect sticky afternoons, cloudy skies and sudden showers that can slow road journeys.

Keep sightseeing short and choose indoor stops, such as the Bihar Museum or Patna Museum, during the hottest part of the day. The Ganga ghats are better for a brief visit when the sun is lower, but don't count on a pleasant day for long walks or outdoor plans.

Festivals and local life

Ganga Dussehra may fall in June, depending on the Hindu lunar calendar. People gather at the Ganges for prayers and ritual bathing, including near Patna's riverfront ghats. The date changes each year, so local observances aren't guaranteed during your visit.

Quieter, but not ideal

June is summer low season, before the heavier July rains. You'll usually find fewer tourists than in Patna's cooler November-to-February peak, and hotel rates may be softer. Still, this isn't a comfortable month for a sightseeing-heavy trip. May is even hotter, while July is wetter.

For a practical local tip, try litti chokha at a Patna restaurant rather than making a long outdoor food stop. The roasted wheat balls and mashed vegetables are a Bihar favourite, and a sit-down meal gives you a welcome break from the heat. If rain is falling, leave extra time for traffic between the city centre and the Ganga ghats.
