March: mild, damp spring

Hezhou is mild in March, but it rarely feels bright or dry. Days reach about 22°C, while evenings cool to around 12°C. Rain falls on 18 days, and thick cloud often dims the sky. February is drier and cooler; April is warmer and wetter.

You can still explore Huangyao Ancient Town's lanes and old bridges, especially when rain eases. Gupo Mountain is greener in spring, but wet paths and cloud can spoil longer hikes and views. Keep your plans flexible: use a rainy spell for a slower visit to Huangyao, then take a walk when the clouds lift. The old town's stone lanes can get slick, so watch your footing around the bridges and streams.

Travelling with kids? A short wander through the town is easier to manage than a long, muddy Gupo Mountain hike. Ask locally about the day's conditions before heading up. At mealtimes, try Hezhou's rice noodles, a local staple; a warm bowl makes a welcome stop when the damp air turns chilly.
