October weather

October is one of Hefei's best months to visit. Days feel mild, and evenings turn cool, so you can explore without summer's sticky heat. The high reaches 24°C, with a low of 13°C. Rain falls on about eight days, but showers needn't spoil a whole day.

Walk around Swan Lake or explore the gardens and halls at Lord Bao Park. The comfortable weather also suits a trip to Sanhe Ancient Town. Keep indoor stops in mind for wet spells, and don't count on every afternoon being sunny.

National Day crowds

China's National Day holiday begins on October 1 and brings a week of travel. Hefei's sights and transport can feel crowded then, and hotel prices often rise compared with quieter months. Outside the holiday, October is a calmer choice than the peak week, though it's still a popular time to visit.

If you hate crowds, avoid the holiday week and visit Bao Gongyuan on a weekday. The park's paths are much more pleasant when you're not jostling through a crowd.

Getting around Hefei in October

October works well for a mix of city sights, lakeside walks and day trips. You can enjoy the outdoors, then duck into a museum or teahouse if rain rolls in. Compared with September, it's cooler and less rainy; November is cooler still.

For a practical local stop, visit Sanhe Ancient Town and try its rice dumplings, a local speciality. Give yourself time to wander the old lanes rather than treating it as a quick photo stop. Back in Hefei, order Luzhou roast duck for a taste of the city's local cooking.
