Corfu feels cool, damp and changeable in February. Afternoons can reach 14°C, but mornings and evenings are closer to 10°C. Rain falls on about half the days, and clouds often soften the light. You'll get some sunny spells, but this isn't dependable beach weather.

It's a good month for wandering Corfu Town's narrow lanes, ducking into the Archaeological Museum, or stopping for a long lunch of sofrito, a local veal dish. Rain can make coastal walks muddy, so skip a long hike if the paths are wet. Swimming and sunbathing are best left for warmer months.

Carnival and quieter days

Corfu's carnival, called Apokries, may fall partly in February, though its dates change each year. Corfu Town hosts parades with costumes and music, drawing a livelier local crowd. Clean Monday can also land in February; it marks the start of Lent, and families often fly kites and eat lagana, a flatbread made for the day.

If you hate crowds, you'll find February far quieter than summer. Prices are generally lower, too, but some hotels and restaurants close for the winter. The town stays more useful as a base than smaller resort areas.

Tips for Corfu in February

Take the bus or a taxi to Achilleion Palace only after checking that it's open; winter opening arrangements can differ. If rain sets in, the Liston arcade in Corfu Town gives you a sheltered place for coffee and people-watching.

Travelling with kids? The carnival parade can be a fun change from quiet museum visits, but check its date before setting out. February suits a flexible city break, not a trip built around long beach days.
