Skopje Weather in February

February feels like winter

Skopje's February days are cool, with highs around 8°C and lows near freezing. Rain falls on about 11 days, and grey skies are common. You may get a dry spell, but don't count on long sunny afternoons.

The weather suits indoor stops and short city walks. See the Stone Bridge, then warm up inside the Archaeological Museum or a café in the Old Bazaar. Wet pavements and chilly evenings make long outdoor plans less appealing. Skip a day trip to Mount Vodno if rain or cloud hides the views.

Events and quieter streets

February isn't a major festival month in Skopje. Valentine's Day may bring a little extra activity at restaurants, but the city's better-known events fall at other times of year.

If you hate crowds, you'll find the Old Bazaar and main sights calmer than in the busy summer months. February is winter low season, so accommodation can cost less than during peak travel months. Some outdoor cafés may be quiet or closed, and the short days leave less time for wandering.

Make the most of your visit

Choose a clear spell for the walk across the Stone Bridge and up to Kale Fortress. If clouds roll in, keep your plans around the city centre, where museums and cafés offer an easy retreat from the cold.

Travelling with kids? Keep the Old Bazaar visit short if the lanes are wet and chilly. A useful local stop is a bakery near the bazaar for burek, a flaky pastry often filled with cheese or meat. It makes a cosy break between sights. February is wetter than June and September to October, Skopje's more comfortable visiting months, but it's still a good time for a quieter city break.
