Skopje Weather in July

July: hot and sunny

July brings Skopje's summer heat: afternoons can feel intense, while evenings are more comfortable. The typical high is 31°C, with little rain and long, bright days. That's good weather for wandering the Old Bazaar or taking in views from Kale Fortress, but the steep climb to the fortress is less appealing in the midday sun.

June is cooler and wetter, while August is slightly hotter and just as dry. Save outdoor sightseeing for the morning or evening, and use the hottest part of the day for a long lunch or an indoor stop.

Summer evenings

The Skopje Summer Festival runs through summer, with concerts and theatre performances around the city. It gives you a reason to head out after the heat eases. July 26 is also the anniversary of the 1963 earthquake, which devastated Skopje; the Museum of the City of Skopje is in the former railway station, whose clock still marks the time of the quake.

If you hate crowds, July's evenings around Macedonia Square can feel busy, but Skopje is generally less packed than North Macedonia's lake and mountain resorts. Summer is a popular travel season, so prices may be higher than in June or September.

Make the heat work

Travelling with kids? Keep the Stone Bridge and Old Bazaar for cooler hours, then take a break indoors during the afternoon. The bazaar's narrow lanes offer shade, and you can stop for tavče gravče, a baked bean dish served in a clay pot.

For an easy evening route, cross the Stone Bridge from Macedonia Square into the bazaar and explore at your own pace. July has plenty of daylight, but you don't need to fill every sunny hour with sightseeing.
