Rain is more common than in summer: expect showers on about 12 days. They can interrupt boat trips or beach time, so keep a flexible plan. The Achilleion Palace and Corfu Town's museums make useful alternatives when skies turn grey. Long hikes can still feel sticky, especially in the afternoon.

Events and island life

The Corfu International Music Festival often runs in autumn, with concerts in September in venues around the island. Dates and programmes vary, so don't build your trip around a specific performance until it's confirmed.

September also brings the Orthodox feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on the 14th. It's a religious day, not a major island-wide celebration, but you may notice services at local churches.

If you hate crowds, aim for the second half of September. August's peak holiday rush has eased, though popular beaches and Corfu Town can stay busy early in the month. Prices often soften after August, but Corfu is still in season, so don't expect every hotel or taverna to be quiet.

Travelling with kids? September's warm sea and less intense heat can make beach days easier, though passing showers may change your plans. In Corfu Town, visit the Old Fortress earlier in the day; its exposed paths offer little shade. Then duck into the Liston arcade for a coffee if rain rolls in.
