October is one of Wuzhong's best months for being outdoors. Afternoons feel cool and sunny, while evenings turn chilly, so you'll notice the temperature change after sunset. Rain is limited, with just a few wet days, and the air is less humid than in summer.

It's a good time to walk along the Yellow River or visit the Qingtongxia 108 Pagodas without summer heat. The clear, dry feel suits sightseeing, but don't count on warm weather for a long evening outdoors. By November, daytime highs drop sharply.

Holidays and crowds

China's National Day holiday begins on October 1 and usually brings a week of domestic travel. Popular sights and transport can be crowded, and prices often rise compared with quieter weeks. Outside that holiday, October is generally calmer than Golden Week, though it's still a popular month to visit.

If you hate crowds, avoid the first week and enjoy Wuzhong later in the month.

The Mid-Autumn Festival can also fall in October, but its date changes each year. It's a family holiday, so travel may get busier around the festival.

October works well for a relaxed city break, river views and local food. Try Wuzhong's hand-grabbed lamb, a well-known Ningxia dish, after a day out; cool evenings make a warm meal especially welcome. For a quieter visit to the Qingtongxia 108 Pagodas, go outside the National Day rush and allow time for the riverside setting.

One local tip: check the wind before heading to the Yellow River Tower. It's exposed by the river, and a sunny afternoon can still feel chilly there.
