October feels much gentler than September. Days reach about 24°C, with cooler evenings near 15°C, so you can explore without September's heavier heat. Rain falls on around nine days, but showers usually leave plenty of time for outdoor plans.

Travelling with kids? East Lake's broad paths make an easy outing, but check the forecast before setting off; rain can interrupt a long lakeside walk. For a city view, go to Yellow Crane Tower on a clear day, when you're more likely to see across the Yangtze River.

A Wuhan-specific tip: take the ferry across the Yangtze between Wuchang and Hankou. It's a useful way to cross town and gives you a river view without committing to a long sightseeing cruise. Afterward, look for hot dry noodles, or reganmian, around Hankou for a filling local breakfast.
