Mild days by the Han River

October is one of Xiangyang's best months for walking around. Afternoons reach about 24°C, while evenings cool to around 12°C. The air is less sticky than in summer, and rain comes on some days, so a shower can interrupt an outdoor plan.

A local stop after sightseeing

Cool evenings are a good time to try Xiangyang beef noodles, a local favourite often served with a spicy broth. North Street, beside the ancient city, is a handy place to look for noodle shops and other local snacks. It can be lively around meal times, especially during the holiday.

One useful local tip: the ancient city and Fancheng sit on opposite sides of the Han River. Leave time to cross between them rather than treating them as one compact walking area. October's milder weather makes the riverside route pleasant, but rain can leave paths damp.
