June weather in Sarajevo

June is warm without being scorching, and the evenings around Baščaršija are mild. Days reach about 24°C, but it rains on 14 days, so a shower can cut a walk short. The long daylight gives you plenty of time to see the Latin Bridge, Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque and the old bazaar. If you want the most reliable sunshine, though, July to September are better, and July is warmer and drier than June.

The hills around the city can give you a clear spell, but paths turn muddy after rain, so wear sturdy shoes. When the weather turns, a museum like the Tunnel of Hope makes a good indoor stop.

Events and city life

June 28 marks the anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand near the Latin Bridge, an event that helped trigger the First World War. The spot is part of the old-town route that locals walk every day, not a big summer festival. The Sarajevo Film Festival runs in August, so don't plan a June trip around it.

If you dislike crowds, June suits you. The summer rush hasn't yet reached its July and August peak, but café terraces and the old bazaar can still feel busy.

Getting around in June

Compared with the peak summer months, June is often quieter and can be easier on accommodation prices. It's still busier than the winter months, though, and prices shift with local demand.

On a wet day, take the tram to the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina near Marijin Dvor. It's a welcome change from the steep lanes around Baščaršija. When the sky clears, ride the cable car up Mount Trebević for city views, and save the walk back down for dry paths.
