June weather

June feels properly summery in Split, with warm days, mild evenings and long hours of daylight. The sea and waterfront are inviting, and you can explore Diocletian's Palace without May's cooler feel. Rain still falls on some days, so keep a flexible plan for a shower.

The heat is manageable for walks around the old town and up Marjan Hill, especially before the afternoon feels sticky. Save longer climbs for cooler parts of the day, and don't expect July's drier weather: June gets more rain.

What to do

Take a swim at Bačvice beach, then find shade among the narrow stone lanes of the Palace. The Riva promenade is lovely in the evening, when the day's heat eases. June's long daylight gives you time for a ferry trip to nearby islands, too.

Families can enjoy beach time and old-town exploring, but little ones may find the sunny stone streets hot in the afternoon. Croatia's Statehood Day falls on June 25; it's a public holiday, so some services may run differently.

June is busier and generally pricier than May, but it's usually calmer and less expensive than July and August. Visitor numbers rise as summer gets underway, though the biggest peak-season crush is still ahead.

For a quieter break, you'll likely prefer May's cooler, less crowded streets. In June, head to Diocletian's Palace early, before the lanes fill and the stone starts holding the heat. Look for shade around the Peristyle, the palace's central courtyard, then save the Riva for sunset.
