Visiting Malaga in June
June weather in Málaga
June feels properly summery, but the heat is usually easier to handle than in July. Days reach around 24°C, evenings stay mild, and rain is rare. With long daylight and plenty of sunshine, you can wander the old town, visit the Alcazaba, or spend an afternoon on Malagueta beach.
The midday sun can still feel strong on the stone paths around the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro. Save those uphill walks for later in the day, and leave long sightseeing stretches for morning or evening. The sea is tempting, though it may still feel cool when you first step in.
San Juan and summer crowds
June's best-known local celebration is the night of San Juan, on June 23. People gather on Málaga's beaches for bonfires, food and music, then mark midnight with a dip in the sea. The beach can get noisy and crowded, so choose a quieter evening if you'd rather hear the waves than the party.
June is busier than May as summer begins, but it's generally calmer than July and August. Prices tend to rise from spring, especially near the coast, yet you'll usually find fewer peak-season crowds than later in summer. Families who want beach time without the busiest school-holiday rush may find June a good fit.
Make room for the heat
For a relaxed city break, pair a morning visit to the Picasso Museum with a long lunch in the shade around Plaza de la Merced. Try espeto, sardines grilled on skewers over a beach fire, at a chiringuito, a casual beach restaurant. The waterfront is lovely for a stroll, but the sand can feel hot underfoot in the strongest afternoon sun.
If you're heading to Gibralfaro, take the bus up and walk down instead of climbing in the midday heat. You'll still get the views over the port, without turning the climb into the hardest part of your day.
