June: warm and damp

June feels warm rather than scorching, but frequent rain makes the air sticky. Qujing gets rain on 23 days, and cloudy skies leave little sunshine. Showers can interrupt walks and muddy paths, so keep outdoor plans flexible. Qilin Park is a good choice for a break between showers; save longer countryside outings for a clearer day.

The rain is heavier than in May, though July is wetter still. For hikers, this is a month for short walks near town, not a reliable stretch of dry trail.

Festivals and local plans

The Dragon Boat Festival often falls in June, though its date changes each year. It's a public holiday across China, and travel can pick up around the holiday as families take trips. Qujing isn't among the best-known places for major dragon boat races, so don't count on a big local event.

Families who prefer quieter sights may find ordinary June weekdays calmer than the July and August school-holiday rush.

Crowds and practical tips

Outside the holiday, June is usually less crowded than peak summer, and stays may cost less than in July or August. Rain and cloud also make June less appealing for sightseeing than Qujing's drier months, especially February to April and November.

At Qilin Park, keep your visit flexible: the paths are easier to enjoy between showers, and the views can disappear under low cloud. If rain sets in, head back into town rather than pressing on to an exposed viewpoint. You'll get a more comfortable day without turning a wet walk into the main event.
