The clear, dry spell suits a stroll around Cuanbaozi stele or a day exploring the old town. Long hikes can feel chilly once the sun drops, so avoid leaving a mountain walk too late. February is winter here, but it's one of Qujing's most comfortable months to visit.

For flower views, head towards Luoping, which is part of Qujing. Its rapeseed fields often begin flowering around February, though the display varies with the season. Families who want an easy outing can see the bright fields around Jinji Peak without taking on a long hike.

Outside Spring Festival, February is generally calmer than March, when Luoping's flowers draw more visitors. Prices can rise during the holiday, especially for transport. At other times, you'll usually find a quieter feel than in busier spring weeks.

For Luoping, check the train route from Qujing to Luoping before setting out; it's more useful than assuming the flower fields sit near Qujing's city centre. If the holiday falls during your stay, expect crowded stations and some local businesses to take a break.
