Paphos Weather in August

August heat

Paphos is hot and dry in August. Afternoons can feel sticky, with highs around 33°C and nights staying warm. July is just as hot; September brings slightly cooler days and more rain. The sun is strong, so long walks around the open ruins can feel tiring.

The seafront is easier to enjoy in the heat. Swim at Coral Bay, or take a shady break near Paphos Harbour before visiting the Archaeological Park later in the day. Save hikes in the exposed Akamas Peninsula for a cooler month.

Crowds and holidays

August is peak summer season, so beaches, hotels and the harbour area are busier and often pricier than in spring or autumn. European school holidays bring plenty of families. If you hate crowds, visit Paphos in October or November instead.

Assumption Day on 15 August is a public holiday in Cyprus. Some shops and services may close, while churches mark the feast with services. It's a good chance to see local traditions, but don't rely on every business being open.

August in Paphos: local tips

Travelling with kids? Keep beach time for the morning, then take a long, cool break before heading out again. The Tombs of the Kings are exposed, so wandering among the underground chambers can be more comfortable than crossing the site in the midday sun.

For a practical local tip, visit the harbour after the heat eases and choose a table away from the busiest stretch. You'll be close to Paphos Castle and can enjoy the evening air without a long walk across sun-baked archaeological grounds. If you want a cooler August escape, Limassol is nearby and has better weather.
